About this collection

Cydr’s latest collection, Postcards, is an exploration of memory, imagination, and artistic transformation in the digital age. Rooted in personal experience, the series is inspired by the artist’s everyday encounters and a recent New Year’s holiday, capturing fleeting, dreamlike impressions of both the ordinary and the extraordinary.

Each work begins as a photograph, a tangible fragment of reality, before undergoing a metamorphosis into something entirely new through digital reinterpretation. This transformation reflects the way memories evolve over time, shifting between clarity and abstraction, between truth and fiction.

At the core of Postcards lies a dialogue between documentation and distortion. Visual interferences such as arrows, drawn elements, and layered textures echo the markings of traditional postcards, where thoughts, emotions, and reflections are jotted down and sent across distances.

In this digital iteration, these elements act as a guide, subtly directing the viewer’s gaze and inviting them to participate in a reimagined reality, one that hovers between nostalgia and reinvention. The presence of these annotations creates a sense of interaction, as if the artist is whispering secrets to the viewer, prompting them to see beyond what is visible at first glance.

Cydr’s process is deeply rooted in experimentation, using digital tools to blur the boundaries between photography, painting, and graphic design. The collection plays with textures, light distortions, and unexpected compositions, infusing the images with an almost cinematic quality. This layered approach evokes the fragmented nature of memories, where certain details remain sharp while others fade into abstraction. The works in Postcards challenge conventional notions of photography by transforming static images into dynamic expressions of personal history and imagination.

Through this interplay of mediums, Cydr transforms the familiar into the unfamiliar, questioning the ways in which we preserve and share memories. The collection blurs the line between what was and what could be, reinterpreting the act of memory-sharing for a contemporary audience.

Postcards is both an invitation and a challenge, a call to rethink the relationship between personal experience and artistic expression in an era where digital imagery reshapes our perception of the past. The collection encourages viewers to engage actively with the work, to reflect on their own experiences, and to consider how memories are constructed, altered, and ultimately shared across time and space.

By embracing the imperfections and distortions inherent in recollection, Cydr crafts a body of work that is at once deeply personal and universally resonant. The images evoke a sense of longing, a recognition of how the past is never truly fixed but always subject to reinterpretation. In a time when digital media dominates our visual culture, Postcards stands as a testament to the enduring power of artistic transformation, an exploration of how images, like memories, are fluid, ephemeral, and ultimately shaped by the lens through which we choose to view them.

Who is cydr

icon

Born in 2002 in Curitiba, Brazil, Cydr began exploring art at a young age through drawing, painting, and sculpting. However, a pivotal moment came during a school Photoshop class, where Cydr discovered the world of digital art. This sparked a journey from designing YouTube banners to crafting album covers, eventually evolving into deeply personal work that expresses their emotions and ideas.

Having grown up immersed in video games, newer technology and internet culture, Cydr often infuses their art with a digital aesthetic, reflecting a deep appreciation for and nostalgia from their childhood. Now, at 22 years old, Cydr merges playful experimentation with profound self-expression, drawing on memories and everyday observations to reinterpret the familiar through a lens of distortion.
